MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Salvador Gonzales-Vasquez, also known as Placido Gonzalez-Hernandez, 33, a citizen of Mexico found in Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Williams M. Conley to 42 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after having been deported. Gonzales-Vasquez, who had been convicted twice before of illegal reentry, pled guilty to illegal reentry in this case on June 9, 2016.

Gonzales-Vasquez will serve the 42-month sentence imposed today consecutively to a four-year prison term imposed on October 24, 2016, in Lorain County, Ohio, for a rape that Gonzales-Vasquez committed in 2004. DNA evidence developed in 2013 identified Gonzales-Vasquez as the rapist.

The charge against Gonzales-Vasquez was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service.   The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea.
