Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Lori Wenger, 55, Madison, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to two years of probation for theft of government money. Wenger pleaded guilty to this charge July 12.
Wenger admitted that from approximately May 2011 to December 2014, she fraudulently received auxiliary social security benefits intended for the support of her minor child. However, Social Security investigators determined that the child was not living with Wenger, nor did she provide support for the child during this time.
Judge Conley also ordered that Wenger pay restitution to the Social Security Administration of over $23,000.
The charge against Wenger was the result of an investigation conducted by Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Anderson.
